  1. Dear Ilaria
My question is about gemming in 3.2.
I’ve been looking on elitist jerks, on mmo-champion, on wow-heroes for other dps ferals on my server and it all looks unclear if I should go for either str, agi, or ArP. Because they all say different, and on my realm they all gem for different stats, topic on mmo says it hasn’t changed so still go for ArP, you say ArP makes the dmg loss worse, but don’t say for what to go then, my fellow guildy sais agi, I think str would be pretty good myself since they havn’t changed the scaling for AP but then str doesn’t give crit and what about ArP? I’m all confused, could you clear this up for me and my fellow guildy? Here’s my armory incase you wonder howmuch crit/arp I got, stuff like that.
    Thanks

    • I see you were in tanking gear recently. I would guess by that gear level that you’re perfectly ready to gem for armor penetration. I’m adding a more detailed response on the site, thanks for asking.. it’s really an important topic for a lot of ferals so I hope what insight I can give will help.

  3. Dear Ilaria,
With the 12% ArP nerf is gemming for it still the way to go in 3.2.2?
I had some quick looks at some sites but couldn’t find any updates about it yet, and my guild is progressing in ToTC25 HC atm, so I would love to do as much as I can to do the best dps as I can. ;)
Could you be so nice and update this for me?
    Thanks

    • The nerf adjusts the value of Arpen, such that the breaking point at which you want to stack it is increased, so yes gemming it can still be the way to go in really good gear, but it isn’t necessarily for everyone. Remember you want to have enough crit to where returns on your Agility is diminished due to the increase in the chance you will “lose” combo points. That point is around 55% crit, including raid buffs and your Idol proc which is active very nearly 100% of the time. If at this time you have a healthy amount of arpen, and a trinket, then yes keep stacking it up until you reach the soft cap. Armor penetration is still a good stat, there’s a reason it was nerfed. It really was just too good. Unless you are stacked with just incredible arpen gear on nearly every slot, you’ll need to have one of the trinket procs to make it worth your while.

Keeping in mind that I am not a theorycrafter, exact numbers are better found elsewhere – and calculators out there can help determine just how good arpen is to you. With that in mind, with a trinket you want approximately 300-400 arp to beat the threshold. Without a trinket that will be quite a bit higher, about 500 or so. And as that is a ballpark figure, it might be worth getting the exact value calculated for you if you are close.
